Summer with Kanawha City Pediatric Dentistry

Happy July from Kanawha City Pediatric Dentistry! Even though summer is a little different this year we hope you still enjoy the warm and sunny days ahead.

We are truly lucky that West Virginia has so many lovely nature spots to explore. There are a lot of great outdoor activities that you can do while social distancing like hiking, kayaking, and camping. Keeping active helps our bodies stay healthy and can lift our spirits up--which is needed during difficult times. If you’re wanting a less strenuous activity to do, even a simple walk outside is a great way to get your body moving. There are also a ton of new youtube exercise videos that have been released since COVID. You can find lots of ways to get moving, here are a few more suggestions to try: HIIT, dance, yoga, and more.

We know one of the best ways to cool off from the summer heat is indulging in a cold and sweet treat. However, we encourage all patients and their families to try healthy alternatives to sugar-filled treats. Summer has an abundant amount of healthy fruits to enjoy like watermelon, berries, and peaches! These fruits are delicious by themselves but can also be blended into a smoothie or frozen into a popsicle! Also, try limiting the amount of soda you drink. Instead, quench your thirst with water or sugarless flavored water. You might not be aware, but soda has a tremendous amount of added sugar that can lead to serious tooth decay. A healthy diet makes for a healthy smile!

What’s currently helping us get through these strange times is all of the great patients we still get to see in our office! It’s wonderful to know that people are keeping up with their healthcare during the pandemic. Our team also has a reason to celebrate as one of our dental hygienists, Kesha, and her husband, Trevor, welcomed their baby, Nash, into the world! Congrats you two!

Stay safe this summer everyone! We hope to see you and your little one in our office soon.
